Tales of a Half-Blood Orphan

It had been nine days since Velencia had arrived at the farm, and she hadn't said a word. She usually sat in her side of the room and stared out her window at the horses, or Simon tending them. The bedroom was nice, her bed comfortable, she had a bookshelf and a corner for her things. Though her only possession was the clothing from the orphanage and her carved horse.
Simon was very kind, and the way his brown eyes wrinkled in the corners made her feel secure for some reason. His sandy hair was scruffy, but tied back into a little ponytail, little silver streaks winked in the sunlight. He was not yet old, but no longer young, the sun had tanned his skin and made it thick looking, like thin soft leather. Many times he had looked up to her window and waved at her from outside, and just as many times she had ducked away in response.
Niros was not so easily avoided, not only did he share the room with her, but he would spy on her every waking hour. She was a new playmate to him, it was obvious, but he had yet found a way to get her to play. He had dark brown hair and blue eyes, like Martina, softly tanned skin and a lazy devilish grin. He was probably the same age as Velencia, but a bit more relaxed. His clothing was made by his mother, and although he didn't need help getting them messy, his father wrestling with him did lend a hand.
Martina was the one that made Velencia the most uncomfortable, her voice was so warm, so inviting, that she often thought it was someone from long ago. Her river blue eyes always washed over her and she never allowed Velencia to pull away when her face was dirty, and would not stand for her eating in her bedroom. “Not in this house, we are a family. The entire family eats together.” She had told her many times that when she was ready to have new clothes, she would measure her and make her some. She had not yet been ready, but Martina looked to be getting impatient with the look of the ratty frock.
This day, like any other, she was sitting on her bed and Niros was peeking in at her...only this time Martina came up the stairs and put her hands on her hips, “Velencia, its time for new clothing. You've been wearing that rag for long enough, dear.”
Looking at the door, her cheeks darkened and she glared at Niros as he snickered. Standing, she put her horse on her pillow and slunk to the woman in silence. Martina shooed Niros outside and measured Velencia with a spool of thread. Telling her to turn this way and that, lift this arm, now that one. It all took a very short amount of time, but it felt like centuries. Afterwards Martina brushed her hair and cleaned her face, “There, now I will make you some clothes that not only fit, but are more suitable for a growing lady.” She stood and went down into the kitchen, which was near her and Simon's bedroom. The only room on the second floor was Velencia's and Niros's, which allowed it to be somewhat large.
As she turned away from the door, she winced in shock to see Niros peeking in through the window while standing on something outside, “I bet she's going to make you a bunch of little dresses.”
Velencia wrinkled her nose, stomped over and tore her horse out of his reach on her bed, she said nothing, but stuck out her tongue.
He hopped in, onto her bed and looked at her, “How come you don't talk?”

Ahem...so uhm...

I just noticed that our page is moving really slow...and I'm just now realizing that it may be my fault. It never crossed my mind that the bandwidth would be so limited when I...well...I tagged it on Stumbleupon. I thought, "hey, people could come by and see the site I made!", now I'm thinking, "Why the fuck can't I load anything?!". So...I have to figured out a way to get it off stumble...so maybe there won't be so much traffic making it hard for people who actually use the site to get around! I mean it is a free site for god sakes, how could I have been so dense. Then again, everyone has been so busy that not much action has been going on anyway. I may be getting ahead of myself, people may not be visiting at all. But it is moving very slow and I think that may be the cause.
